Update September 2016

I am still hitchhiking...and I am now 61 years old. My feet swell, my knees ache and I sit in a walker/wheeler now while I wait for someone to pull over and offer me a ride.

I traveled to Illinois and back this year. I spent time hanging out in Montana and
Iowa along the way.

And this year, for the first time...I was told by the powers-that-be that I can no longer hitchhike through Wisconsin or Illinois. The walls are slowly closing in on one more long-standing
freedom in the United States.

I am back out in Oregon now...where hitchhiking is more acceptable. And after spending two
oppressive months in the heat of Eastern Oregon...I moved over to the Western side again. While
I was in the Vale area, nary a drop fell from the sky. Now that I have returned to the West
Coast, it sprinkles or outright pours every day. It is lush and green here. Compared to the high desert in Malheur County, this area is a hydrated
paradise.

People still stop and pick me up and they take me home to their house. I also slept in a church building, rest areas and a converted school bus this year.

If  you have any questions, send them to me via email: ruth.rader@gmail.com

I will probably respond.

The Real Deal

I recorded this yesterday (April 6, 2014) while hitchhiking outside of Cascadia, Oregon.
This is one example of what happens when I hitchhike. I started hitching at that location
at 2pm and didn't get a ride until 6:15pm last night.

Update: Lewiston, Idaho

I realize that I let this blog flat line while I worked solely on my other blog, "Ruthie In The Sky." But now I have decided to finally update this blog. It's about time, eh?

Some people, according to my tracker, seem to be fascinated with how I get solicit rides and travel to the places that I do. I like meeting new people and hearing their life story. It's a fact that people, overall, are just plain interesting.

I am going to have to leave this truck stop, go out into the morning cold and put out my thumb to get a ride into town. Then I am going to try and get myself cleaned-up and hopefully get something to eat before I walk back out to the highway again. I have no idea how many miles I will travel today. But I will keep you posted. And this time I mean it.

Meanwhile, for those of you who are checking-out this blog for the first time, you might want to read the list of  "do's-and-don'ts" that I have listed on the sidebar. Yeah, there really are rules that every hitchhiker is better off following.

Today, I will begin my day by hitchhiking into Lewiston, Idaho.
